History
Starting on May 1st, 1968 as a proprietorship, Cal Zehr Construction saw rapid growth
and became Zehr Construction, Incorporated on May 1st, 1972, privately owned by the founders,
Calvin and Emma Zehr. Initially specializing in high quality new home construction, we
diversified through the 1970s and 80s into residential renovations, commercial renovations,
and new commercial construction. Our versatility is what makes us hard to define, yet sets
us apart from other construction companies.
Philosophies
In being a service-oriented business, total customer satisfaction is the ultimate goal.
Our reputation for quality is based on using the best in labor, materials, and business
practices to meet or exceed your expectations of the finished product. You may already
know some of our many satisfied clients as our reputation for fairness and quality is
firmly established in Elkhart County and surrounding communities.
Associations
As part of being a leader in a community, Zehr Construction, Incorporated believes in the
value of trade associations and has been affiliated with the National Association of
Home Builders (NAHB) as an active member of the Builders Association of Elkhart County
(BAEC) since 1979. Through the BAEC, we are also a charter member of what is now the
Remodelers Council of the BAEC, which was founded in 1980. Involvement in these trade
associations allows us to help guide the industry locally, statewide, and nationally,
and ultimately better serve the community and customers.
Progressions
In October of 1999, and with the official retirement of both Calvin and Emma, Zehr
Construction, Incorporated changed ownership to longtime production director, Tim
Short and business director, David Zehr. Now over 30 years since inception, our company now
continues proudly into the new century with founding principles of quality, fairness,
and value at the forefront of our corporation.
